Disk Cleaner Inst
Overview
Disk Cleaner Inst helps you free disk space by removing temporary and unnecessary files on your Mac. Everything runs locally on your computer — nothing is uploaded to the internet.
Quick start
- Open the Clean tab.
- Select categories (Cache, Logs, Trash, .DS_Store).
- Tap Scan. If prompted, choose your home folder.
- Review sizes per category.
- Tap Delete and confirm. Files are removed permanently.
Clean tab
Removes safe temporary data under the folder you selected:
- Cache —
~/Library/Caches - Logs —
~/Library/Logs - Trash — contents of the Trash
- .DS_Store — hidden macOS folder metadata files
Always scan first to see how much space you can free before deleting.
Large Files tab
- Choose a minimum file size.
- Tap Scan and select a folder to search.
- Review the list — open in Finder or delete selected files (with confirmation).
Developer tab
Tools for developers:
- Xcode simulators — list and remove unused simulator data
- Android AVDs — list Android emulators and their size
- Android Studio — installed versions and preference folders
Destructive actions always ask for confirmation before deletion.
Protected paths (blocklist)
The app never modifies critical locations, including:
- Application Support
- Xcode project data (except simulator caches you explicitly remove)
- Docker, iCloud, and similar protected paths
Permissions
- Folder picker — required in the Mac App Store build; pick your home folder when asked.
- Full Disk Access (optional) — System Settings → Privacy & Security. Not required; some folders may be skipped without it.
If access is denied, the app shows a warning and continues safely — it does not crash.
FAQ
Is my data sent to the cloud?
No. All scanning and deletion happens on your Mac.
Do I need an account?
No.
Can I undo deletion?
No — deleted files are not moved to Trash (except when emptying Trash itself). Scan before deleting.
Why does macOS ask for a folder?
App Sandbox rules require explicit folder access in the Mac App Store version.
